Course Descriptions

Chemistry in the Kitchen

This course is an elective class that explores the chemistry in our everyday lives, particularly in cooking. You will be exposed to multiple topics within chemistry as it relates to cooking in the kitchen. We will participate in virtual laboratory settings as well as home lab experiments using everyday items found in your kitchen. You will be expected to complete written responses, laboratory experiments and contribute to mindful discussions about food and cooking. Some topics to be covered include Density, Acids and Bases, Organic Chemistry, and Thermodynamics.

Chemistry 1

This course is a regents prep class that explores the importance of chemistry in our everyday lives. You will be exposed to the basic principles of chemistry and will examine the importance and relevance of scientific thought through discussion and careful analysis of scientific texts. We will participate in virtual laboratory settings at least once every week and will learn about laboratory safety and best practices in this environment. You will be expected to complete problem sets, laboratory experiments and contribute to mindful discussions about the nature of science. Some topics to be covered include Properties of Matter, Structure of Matter, and Chemical Bonding.

Earth Science

This course is a regents prep class that will take a closer look at our unique place in the Universe and the complex systems that surround us.  Earth Science is the name for the group of sciences that study Earth and its neighbors in space. The goal of this course is to cultivate our curiosity while developing scientific inquiry skillsets to be able to investigate, understand, and communicate about the cosmos that surrounds us.
